Geylang Serai
History Of Geylang Serai:
In the 1840's some sea nomads settled on the bank of Geylang River. The settlement expanded to Geylang Serai area in the latter half of the 19th century. At that time this state was owned by the rich Arab family of Alsagoffs. They used this land for the cultivation of lemon grass plants known as Geylang Serai (Serai mean lemon grass) .As this settlement was near Geylang river it is known as Geylang Serai
